Beauty on a Budget?

So, not working for the past few weeks has led me to the realization that I need to be a little more careful where I spend my money. I love getting manicures and pedicures. The $27 for an hour and a half of pleasure and a week and a half of great looking nails is totally worth it to me. That being said, the economy has "fallen off a cliff" according to Warren Buffett, and thus the belt-tightening must start somewhere, right? So I sat down tonight to do some at-home beauty treatments with my Avon nail polish in the hue of "Midnight Plum". The polish was something like $3.50 in the sale catalog so that's more than $20 in my pocket. Quite the deal. Or so I thought.
This was the end result, and I must say that I tried very hard to stay within the confines on my actual nail and avoid my cuticle and finger.

Another angle, and yet further proof that I am horrible at this. It looks like I am trying to paint my nails in the middle of an earthquake.

I think my money and time is best spent paying people who are trained in these sorts of things, because apparently my BA in English didn't qualify me for this deceptively hard beauty treatment.

  2. Wow!!!! On so many levels.

Just a pedicure is $27 here (spa-pedi that is).

Avon also sells a marker-looking thing that is for "erasing" the polish on the skin.

  3. Maybe you should try a lighter color for your at home manicures:)

  4. As the official blog mother I have to say that this is the funniest post so far in the month of March. I am highlighting it on my blog.

  5. That is hysterical! That's how my nails look when I give myself a manicure! Use a q-tip with some remover on it. :)

  6. Too funny! I don't even attempt fingers, only toes!

  7. I know I am no good, so I do this on purpose. Then I want 2 hours and wash off the crap on my cuticles.

  8. just tell people you had lots of wine before applying the polish. i give you tons of credit for at least attempting to do it yourself. i too subscribe to the theory that some things are just worth paying for!

    :)

  9. I am terrible at nail polishing, so I just don't do it. Agent Dragonfly is very dedicated at at-home mani/pedis. I can remember watching her mom do it, as well. She comes from a long line of mani/pedi'ers.

  10. I don't do fingers either, but will paint my own toes. Like so many others, I just end up looking like I basically dipped my toes in the polish bottle and then wait for it to wear off.

I do love having a pedicure and somebody rub on my feet.

    Welcome to the crew!!
